“FUTURES” RACE ADDED TO 2008 OKTOBERFEST RACE WEEKEND
Super Late Models will be competing all four days.By: Kevin Ramsell
WEST SALEM, WI (Thursday, August 14, 2008) – Its less than two months from the 39th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. This year’s Fest promises to be the best ever with some major changes to the four-day race program.
The biggest news to come so far is the announcement that Super Late Models will be competing all four days.
“We have added a “Futures” race on Thursday for the Super Late Models,” John McKarns, MotorSports President and Fest Organizer stated. “The Dick Trickle “99” returns on Friday and the American Speed Association Midwest Tour “Stars and Cars” will be in action both Saturday and Sunday!”
The “Futures” race will be open to all Super Late Model drivers who have never started in the championship Oktoberfest 100, AutoZone 250, etc at La Crosse. Drivers like Skylar Holzhausen, Thor Anderson, Jon Olson, Jack Kalwasinski, Mike Carlson, Kyle Shear, Josh Nelms, and possibly Becca Kasten, Emily Sue Steck and Ross Kenseth will have their night to shine with some possibly making their first start in a Super Late Model.
Thursday’s “Futures” drivers will not have to compete against veteran drivers like Steve Carlson, Nathan Haseleu, Jeremy Lepak, David Prunty, Tim Rothe, Chris Weinkauf, Andrew Morrissey, Travis Sauter, Eddie Hoffman, Dan Fredrickson, Steve Holzhausen, Tim Schendel, Dave Weltmeyer, Donny Reuvers and Kevin Nuttleman.
“We think this will be a great addition to FEST and it all happens on Thursday night, Oktober 2nd. Make your plans to attend all four days of Oktoberfest,” McKarns stated.
Other changes to the Thursday schedule includes moving the weekly La Crosse Late Models back under the lights as their 50-lap season finale will be held that evening.
After their event, some of the La Crosse Late Model competitors will prepare and return to compete with the BRP Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet on Saturday, Oktober 4th.
Another change to the Thursday schedule is that the popular 75-lap “Big Cheese Enduro” for four cylinder cars has been moved from Thursday to Sunday afternoon as the final event of the action packed four-day weekend.
The 39th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will take place on Oktober 2-5, 2008 at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. For more information, including camping and hotel availability, please visit www.lacrossespeedway.com.
