SEVEN CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE DECIDED AT OKTOBERFEST

By: Kevin Ramsell
WEST SALEM, WI (Tuesday, September 16, 2008)- Of the 19 divisions competing at the 39th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend, seven of those will crown champions. Two are weekly divisions at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway and five are touring divisions competing at this year's four-day event.

The two La Crosse Fairgrounds Championships will be decided on Thursday, Oktober 2nd for the North Country Contractors Grand National Sportsmen and United Auto Supply Thunderstox.

The Grand National Sportsman has a tight point's battle as the top-five are separated by 43 points and the top-three are only separated by 16 points. Larry Bolster Jr. sits on top of the standings with 717 points with Jimmy Gilster in second with 714 points. Nick Clements is in third with 701 points.

Randy Humfeld is 34 points back in fourth while Jake Arneson rounds out the top-five, 43 points back.

The La Crosse Sportsman championship will be decided in a 20-lap feature on opening night of Fest.

Only 36 points separate the top-five in the Thunderstox division and this one could come down to the last lap.

Adam Moore and Jamie Dummer are tied at the top of the standings with 988 points each. Jason Stark is only two points behind the two in third. Jason Bolster and Charles Vian Jr. are tied for fourth only 36 points behind the leaders.

The Thunderstox will be competing in a 15-lap feature on the quarter-mile oval on Thursday night.

Three championships will be decided on Super Saturday, Oktober 4th for the BRP Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet, Mid-American Series, and ASA Late Model Series North.

The Big 8 Series will be competing at the National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway the weekend before Fest.

As of today, Jeremy Miller holds an 8-point lead over Michael Bilderback with the two events remaining. Ryan Carlson is in third only 62 points back. Ross Kenseth is fourth 95 points back and Skylar Holzhausen rounds out the top-five, 138 points behind Miller.

The Big 8 Series championship will be decided in a 48-lap feature on Super Saturday.

The Mid-American Series championship will also go through NSTC and Fest. Currently, three-time and defending champion James Swan sits on top of the standings but is only 15 points ahead of Bill Prietzel in the standings.

Kyle Shear sits third in the points, only 63 points behind with Jake Finney in fourth, 127 points back. Lyle Nowak rounds out the top-five sitting 140 points behind Swan.

The Mid-American championship will come down to a 30-lap feature on Super Saturday.

The ASA Late Model Series North will also have one event prior to its Oktoberfest event on Super Saturday as well as they will be competing at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO this weekend.

Defending ASALMSN Oktoberfest winner Eddie Hoffman currently has a 160-point lead over Jesse Saunders in the standings. Brett Moffitt is third, 205 points back with Jeremy Miller in fourth only 213 points behind. Troy Hintzsche rounds out the top-five, 376 points behind the leader.

The ASA Late Model Series North championship will be decided in a 100-lap feature event on Super Saturday.

Two championships will be decided on the final day of the four-day race weekend as the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and the United States Super Trucks North will crown their respective champions.

Dan Fredrickson, defending Oktoberfest winner, has a 56-point lead over Donny Reuvers coming into their Championship Weekend. Tim Schendel is third, 135 points back and is still mathematically eligible to win.

The ASAMT will be competing on both Super Saturday and Sunday in a unique progressive format. Details will be announced shortly.

It will come down to a 100-lap feature event to decide their 2008 champion.

The USST Super Trucks will be competing at Madison International Speedway this weekend and Rockford Speedway's NSTC before coming to Fest.
