VINTAGE CARS TO BRING NOSTALGIA AT THE 2008 OKTOBERFEST RACE WEEKEND

By: Kevin Ramsell
WEST SALEM, WI (Friday, September 19, 2008) - One of the 19 divisions competing at the 39th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will be one that will have fans of all ages sharing stories with each other on the final day of the four day race weekend. On Sunday, Oktober 5th Vintage Cars will take on the .545-mile oval in a 20-lap event.

"Vintage cars bring back a lot of memories for our seasoned fans along with great stories for our new fans to hear," Gregg McKarns, Fest Vintage Car Organizer stated. "I know some fans will like seeing some of the classics racing again in a 20-lap feature event and heats. Most of the time, you can only see these great cars on display but to watch them compete, that is something worth seeing."

Anyone who owns a Vintage car is welcomed to come and compete. They will receive $50 per car and must participate in the on-track autograph session on Sunday morning. If you register in advance, you will receive two free pit passes or they will be $35 on race day.

The pit gates open at 7:30 am with the Vintage Car Driver's Meeting at 8:15 am. The on-track autograph session will go from 9:15-10:40 am. The track will be open for practice at 11:10 am.

Races will consist of Heat Races (line-up determined by draw), eight laps in length. Those heat race finishes will determine the starting line-up for the 20-lap feature.

All racing will be on the .545-mile track with race procedures following the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway practices. Fest officials will utilize commonly accepted vintage rules for full bodied vintage stock cars from the region.

"This event is for exhibition purposes as well as your enjoyment, exposing many fans to the fun of Vintage Racing in our area," McKarns stated.

For inquiries or questions about competing in the Vintage Car division at Oktoberfest, please contact Gregg McKarns at (815) 703-0285.

The 39th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will take place on Oktober 2-5, 2008 at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. For more information, please visit www.lacrossespeedway.com.
