OKTOBERFEST RACE WEEKEND IS AN ALL-STAR WEEKEND
By: Kevin Ramsell
WEST SALEM, WI (Tuesday, September 30, 2008) – Throughout the season, racetracks around the Midwest host their weekly programs along with many touring series traveling around. It’s over a four-day weekend that the competitors and those touring series will all come together and compete at one race facility.
Oktoberfest has become a four-day All-Star weekend for the 19 divisions that will be competing. Guaranteed, you will see the best drivers in their respective divisions or series competing this weekend.
It will get underway on Thursday at 6 pm. This will be a busy night as seven Oktoberfest features will be raced that night. The divisions competing include: Super Late Models Futures, La Crosse Late Models, La Crosse Thunderstox, R.A.Y.S., Hornet vs. Bandit Challenge, La Crosse Sportsmen, and the famous Double-O.
Champions will be crowned in the La Crosse Sportsmen and Thunderstox divisions.
The Super Late Model Futures is a new division this year featuring some of the best up and coming Super Late Model along with some veterans. What makes this race unique is that it’s only open to Super Late Model drivers who have never started the Oktoberfest Main Feature Event (i.e. Oktoberfest 100, NASCAR Elite or Re/Max Feature, ASAMT, and ARTGO).
Fans that purchase a four-day wristband are invited to the drivers meeting in the Big Red Barn at 5 pm. The legendary Dick Trickle will be the guest speaker at the meeting.
Friday’s action will get underway at 5 pm with the three divisions competing. The highlight of the evening will be the Second Annual Dick Trickle “99.” This Super Late Model feature event will be raced in three 33-lap segments modeled after the famous Milk Bowl at ThunderRoad in Barre, VT.
Trickle will be on hand and will be a special pit reporter for this event.
The Super Sportsmen and Area Sportsmen will also have feature races on Friday night.
The evening will be capped off with a new event, the “Stubby 49 ½” semi-feature event for the Super Late Models that didn’t make the Dick Trickle “99” field.
It will be a “Super Saturday” at Oktoberfest with the action getting underway at 4 pm. The American Speed Association Midwest Tour will have their qualifying features that will help set the field for Sunday’s main event.
The ASA Late Model Series North Division will crown their champion at the conclusion of their 100-lap feature event. Will Eddie Hoffman, who will also be competing in the Dick Trickle “99” win the championship or will 2007 ASALMSN Rookie of the Year Jesse Saunders upset the veteran driver?
The Big 8 Series will also crown its champion on Saturday night at the conclusion of their 48-lap feature event. Jeremy Miller and Michael Bilderback’s point battle will come down to the final lap. Also, could 15-year-old Rookie Ross Kenseth improve on his impressive fourth place finish at Fest a year ago?
The Mid-American Series will be competing in a 30-lap main event with James Swan looking at another championship.
Yes, three champions will be crowned on “Super Saturday.”
The green flag will be waved at high noon on Sunday as the final day the 39th Annual event.
Dan Fredrickson will be looking at becoming the second ASAMT champion, but Donny Reuvers may have something to say about that as he is only 56 points behind going into this weekend. The champion will be determined in the 100-lap main event.
But, will any take the “Ultimate Challenge” by starting at the rear and win for an extra $5,000?
The USST North Trucks will also be competing and looking to crown their champion. John Wood has a 42-point lead over Collin Laursen coming into their 25-lap feature event.
Also on Sunday, for the first time, Vintage Cars will compete in a 20-lap feature event.
And finally, a 75-lap Enduro will bring down the four-day race weekend.
Oh, and that is not all. There will be some fun and excitement outside of the track as well.
On Saturday, there is a memorabilia show in the Exhibition Hall with free admission. And on Sunday, there is the famous pancake breakfast for everyone and a pumpkin coloring contest for the kids in the Exhibition Hall.
There is something for everyone at Fest!!!
