EIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE DECIDED AT THE 41st ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST RACE WEEKEND

Oktoberfest Race Weekend PR
WEST SALEM, WI (Friday, September 10, 2010) - Of the 20 divisions competing at the 41st Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend, eight of them will decide their season championships. A majority of them have a very tight points battle.

La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, the host track, will have three of their weekly divisions contest for their championships on the opening night on Thursday, October 7th.

The La Crosse Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models will, for the first time, contest their championship at Fest. Shawn Pfaff has a nine-point lead over defending champion J. Herbst. He also has a 24-point lead over Brent Kirchner. They will battle for the championship in a 50-lap feature event.

A 20-lap feature event will determine the championship for the North Country Contractors Grand National Sportsmen. It’s a two-car battle with Rick Schermerhorn holding a 15-point lead over Greg Scheck.

64 points separate the top-three in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox division. They will have a 15-lap feature event where Adam Moore, who has a 52-point lead over Jason Bolster, will hold on to win the championship. Josh Inglett is in third only 64 points back.

Three more championships will be decided on Saturday, October 9th as three touring series will use Oktoberfest to determine who will raise their respective championship trophies.

The Big-8 Series has three of their six event in the record books this season. Oktoberfest will be the last of a three week stretch leading up to their championship. They will compete at Madison International Speedway on Saturday, September 25th and Rockford Speedway as part of the 45th Annual National Short Track Championships on Saturday, October 2nd. After three events, Jeremy Miller holds a 63-point lead over Bobby Wilberg. They will compete in a 48-lap feature event at Fest.

The Mid-American Stock Car Series will be following almost the same schedule as the Big-8 Series but with four events remaining on their schedule. They will compete at Dells Raceway Park this Saturday night. Then after a weekend off they will hit their three week stretch with Madison on the 25th, Rockford on October 3rd and then to Fest. Currently, veteran driver Lyle Nowak has a six-point lead over Brian Back and a 21-point lead over Bill Prietzel in the standings. A 30-lap feature will determine their 2010 champion.

The ASA LATE MODEL SERIES will crown their champion with a 100-lap feature event on Saturday night. Three-time Oktoberfest Race Weekend Champion Eddie Hoffman currently holds a 147-point lead over Jesse Saunders. They will have one event at Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI prior to coming to Fest.

You want a close points battle for a championship? How about two on Sunday, October 10th. The American Speed Association Midwest Tour and the American Speed Association Midwest Truck Tour will bring the two closest points battle to Oktoberfest for each of their season finales.

Defending American Speed Association Midwest Tour Champion Steve Carlson is coming to Oktoberfest looking to repeat. But he only holds a two-point lead over Chris Wimmer in their standings. In his illustrious career, Carlson has won the Oktoberfest weekend’s main event once in 2000. Wimmer is looking to add his name into the same record books that his late uncle Larry Detjens (1976, 77) is in. Carlson has multiple wins at La Crosse where Wimmer recently picked a win at Marshfield Motor Speedway, a track that is close to the same characteristics to the home of Oktoberfest.

Then it will be brother vs. brother for the American Speed Association Midwest Truck Tour championship. Jerry Wood will be coming into Oktoberfest with just a one-point lead over his brother John Wood. The two have dominated the season as they both shared victory circle all year. In seven events, Jerry has three of the wins while John has four wins.

“We have some exciting championship battles coming to Oktoberfest this year,” Chuck Deery, Oktoberfest Race Weekend Promoter said. “The eight of the 20 divisions contesting for the championship showcases the unique variety that will be racing all four days. This will be a fun and exciting Fest.”

Also, Oktoberfest officials have clarified that the Hoosier F-40 and F-50 tires will be the tires for all of the Super Late Model events including the Dick Trickle “99” on Friday, October 8th.

The 2010 Oktoberfest Competition book, entry form and the American Speed Association Midwest Tour entry forms can all be found at the official Fest website www.oktoberfestraceweekend.com under the “Competitors” heading.
